Shirred Blouse

Greetings Everyone!

My Shirred Blouse is complete and I love all the details from the shirring to the inside seams. This was my first time shirring so it was a lot of fun to play around with the different techniques and styles. Have you ever shirred before? Feel free to view the video and watch the whole process of sewing my blouse. I hope you enjoy it!

Oufits from my Closet

I used the following techniques for inside of the blouse:

  • Rolled Hem: down the center front
  • Binding: along the shoulder and back
  • Spaghetti Straps: tie strings at the front
  • French Seam: Along the side of the bodice

Thank you for visiting and hope you got inspired to create something EXTRAordinary;)

Here are some of the tutorials for the details inside the blouse:

Rolled hem was used to alter my Bridesmaid dress.

The French Seam was used for the bodice along the side seams:

Lace Sleeve Easter Blouse : Get up and Sew!

easter outfits

Greetings!

The week started out a little rough but I finally finished editing the Lace Sleeve Easter top.  I wore the Lace Sleeve Blouse under my Easter dress for mass from home.  Afterwards, I changed into my Sailor Jeans for the Easter egg hunt.  I ❤️ the versatility!

You will see the general process of how I sewed the top with a special focus on cutting and attaching the beautiful #guipurelace.  Feel free to view it below:

As my husband said, “Get up and sew!!!” I was having a hard time getting out of bed last Monday morning worrying about my father.  He got sick recently.  Thank God he is starting to feel better but I can’t help but continue worrying about him and thinking of others who are experiencing stress and worries during this time.

I pray everyone is doing well. 🙏🌎🌍🌏 The reality is we will all have ups and downs. We need to support one another and be there for each other the best we can. Please take care of each other.  It’s ok to have down days but don’t get stuck there.  Do something to keep yourself going whether it is cooking, gardening, organizing, praying, etc – do something you love and enjoy.  Just do something that will help you mentally, physically, and spiritually.  Like my husband said, “get up and sew!!!” – and that I did.🤗😘

Hugs!

Sailor Jeans : Hidden Details

IMG_5015

Sailor Jeans Toile

Greetings!

I hope you are all staying healthy and being as productive as you possibly can.  I have completed my Sailor Jeans and now in the stage of editing the video.  It will be a two part tutorial which will include how I drafted the pattern and then sewing the jeans.  I have an Easter dress to start today so the Sailor Jeans video series may not be posted until after Easter.  For now, I hope you can enjoy the details…

Although no one will ever see the interior of my jeans, I love the hidden details. This secret feature is only between you and me🤫😉😁.

Take a peek inside👀…

I am in love with the red contrast bias binding on the inside.  It adds a little spark of personality.

Below are my completed jeans.  It is high waisted, boot cut, 4 buttons along each side of the squared pocket, and has an exposed zipper in the back.

Inspiration for my Sailor Jeans

Greetings with many thoughts and prayers for everyone.

In order to keep my mental health positive, I still have to set time aside to design and sew.  It is a time where I lose myself in creativity.  I find this helpful since the time outside of sewing is worrying about others.

This specific project is going to be forever imprinted on my mind because I started this project when the coronavirus unfolded.  I am thinking of making a different kind of video for this one…I will be brainstorming.

Well, I have done plenty of alterations to jeans, but I never sewed denim jeans from beginning to end. This will be my first😬.  After doing some research, I did not find any information on sewing sailor jeans, but I did find some inspirational videos that showed me the general process.  Other than that, I will be figuring out the whole process as I go along.  This will be a lot of fun.

I am in love with the #RalphLauren blue denim available @sewmuchfabric. It is an 8oz no stretch 100% cotton. I wanted a classic contrasting thread so I chose Gutermann #870 Topaz and the matching #279 Dark Midnight. All are available on the online shop at: Sew Much Fabric

Youtique Bride & Lifestyle : Not Everyone Is My Audience

Greetings Everyone!

It’s Friday and I completed my Faux Leather Cardigan.  However, I am on the video editing phase for this project.  Thank you in advance for your patience as that always take time.

While putting my outfits together for this project, I envisioned my lifestyle and all the daily/weekly/yearly responsibilities I had.  During this particular outfit session, I had a flashback of a meeting I had a year ago with a fellow friend in the Fashion Industry,  David Dang.  He had shared that not everyone is my audience and I had to get to know my audience well – where they shop, places they hang out, how they live, what their professions are, etc.  I didn’t have the answers back then, but it occurred to me recently.  I hope to express some of it through my outfit stories…

IMG_0625

Red Faux Leather Cardigan

When I decided to step out of my comfort zone a couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to meet some amazing women and each had a unique story.  I met them at bridal events, networking events, fashion events, and some are my closest friends and family. Their stories fascinated me.  I was amazed by their passion, determination, and generous hearts.  They were Brides-to-be, Wives, Mothers, Dreamers, Singles, and Women of faith.  I was able to relate to some ladies more than others.  They were the Youtique Bride or lived the Youtique Lifestyle.

IMG_0632

Meetings Outfit : Floral Dress with Boots

Bride-to-be.  I too was a bride-to-be.  As much as I wanted to plan the wedding myself, I needed help.  I had concerns and worries of planning a wedding so I hired a wedding planner.  She helped set up meetings with different vendors while I got to focus on designing and sewing my wedding dress.  If I could, I would DIY everything.  I enjoy going to the fabric and craft stores and allow my imagination to wonder.  However,  I also had to be realistic and remember my time limitations.  I am thankful for family and friends who helped make my wedding day extra special.  Many thanks to my Aunt Kimmie who made my wedding veil.

Wife.  I too had to learn how to be a wife and manage the home.  Over the years, my cluttered and messy home slowly became more organized and clean (thank goodness for more cleaner days than messy;).  I learned how to simplify, build routines, shopped for the best quality I can afford so things will last longer.  I learned that quality does not always mean a higher price tag.  Often, I want to make sure things had more than one use and purpose.   I work alongside my husband as an equal to build a strong family foundation.  When I am weak, my husband is strong.  When he is weak, I am strong.  That helps us to grow together and learn from one another.  We build each other up.  We work as one.  I want to thank my friend John Tran for sharing this bible scripture with me years ago on “The Good Wife.”  Proverbs 31

IMG_0626

Grocery shopping, Car rider line, parent/teacher meetings, quick errands : sleeveless chambray blouse

Motherhood.  I too understand motherhood.  I want to provide my children the best education and life experiences I can afford.  I also want to make sure they felt loved and cared for yet allow for some growing pains.  I pray daily for their future, development of their gifts so I can help guide them in their purpose.  I understand that I will never be the perfect parent but I am giving it my all as a parent.  And although I try my best to have healthy meals, I give into fast foods once in awhile because of music lessons or after school activities.  Each year, I readjust my schedule for teacher meetings, school events, recitals, etc.  I learned the best time to grocery shop and how to modify recipes to make it quick and healthy.  My children may not always like the food I make but it’s ok.  We are thankful to have more than enough and life will go on.

IMG_0629

Business Meetings: color block tee & zipper front skirt

Dreamers.  I too have a dream.  When I first started, I didn’t know what I was doing.  I just had a dream, passion, and drive.  I had put together my first business plan and it would be modified several times over the years.  I worked overtime when it wasn’t necessary because I wanted my dreams to become reality.  I had sleepless nights because business ideas would fill my head.  I would fail many times but I was relentless because I knew a few victories will follow.  I did not want to give up (although the idea would often come).  I was always in learning mode and tried to figure things out.  Eventually, I would learn how to manage the business finances and develop the operating systems.  I still have so much to learn but I am thankful for friends who went before me and helped mentor me.

Singles.  I too was once single searching for a life partner.  I did not want just any life partner, but the right life partner for me.  I learned that superficial qualities does not mean a quality husband.  I prayed for the right person to come into my life and he eventually did.  He only came after I took the time to learn more about myself and gave myself the respect I deserved.  However, I would like to also talk about the widows and single mothers I met.  This group of women leave me awestruck.  In the most challenging times, they persevere.  They may be tired but they use every ounce of their energy to make things happen.  They are resourceful.  They are builders.  They are able to work with what they have.  It appears they can make something out of nothing.  They rely on hope and build up other women because they understand the challenges.  I see their victories even when they don’t see it, maybe because they are exhausted.

IMG_0631

Women of Faith.  I too am a woman of faith.  I rely on God because he is my provider, my strength, and my salvation.  He created me to be unique and helped me understand that I will not always fit in.  He is my creator and because of Him, I create.  He loves me and my imperfections.  He wants the best for me and knows what I can and can not handle.  He reminds me that life is full of joys and heartaches but to depend and lean on Him.  He is a loving God and answers my prayers by saying, “yes and not now, I have something better for you.” He reminds me that not all battles are mine to fight, but to discern and choose wisely.  He understands me when I am misunderstood.  He wants me to grow, serve with joy, and be the best version of myself.  I live with love, hope, and faith.

I understand that not everyone is meant to be my audience, but all are welcome.  I thank you for visiting.  If you choose to stay, thank you and welcome.  I look forward to our journey of growing & evolving together.  If not, thank you for visiting and I hope you find your community.  You are welcome here anytime where there is mutual love and respect.

XOXO, Ann

New Project : Red Faux Leather Cardigan

Greetings!

The weekend is here.  What will you be creating this weekend?  Is there a new project you have planned for the New Year?  I will be sewing a faux leather cardigan.  Below is the inspiration board for my project.

IMG_9327

Inspiration Board via Pinterest

I am at the stage where I have complete trust in Roz. When she suggests something for my wardrobe, I don’t question it like I use to. This time she suggested a long red coat made with the red faux leather. She sent inspiration photos of the beautiful tan color Loewe Belted Leather Coat from Net-a-porter (center of my my inspiration board). I fell in love with it and researched how I can wear the red color via Pinterest.

IMG_9878

Fashion Fabrics: Red Faux Leather, Valentine Red Rayon Lining

The toile was made by modifying the bodice of my black coverup and the bottom of my red lace skirt.

Below is my completed toile. My husband Mr.T asked why I was making a leather bathrobe 🤣. He always has a silly comment to make.  And thank you Roz!  It is always nice to have someone fit me.

This is my third time working with faux leather so I have built more confidence in working with it.  Well, I can’t wait to complete it and share the outcome with you.
Thank you for visiting & I hope you have a wonderful weekend! 🤗

Cheers!

Greetings!

I hope you had a wonderful Winter Holiday Season.  Do you need to recover from all the events like I do?  Although I enjoyed all the celebrations, I am looking forward to this weekend to rest and recuperate.  Before the New Year starts, I would like to do some deep cleaning in my Sewing Studio.  Would you like to see my process?  Let me know in the comment section below.

Front Zipper Skirt : How to Sew a Corner Seam & Welt Pocket

Greetings!

How is everyone’s Friday?  Today is an official start to a very busy month – celebrations every weekend, Christmas shopping, preparing the kids for their break, making sure to do my end of the year paperwork, organize my sewing drawer & prioritizing time for reflection during this Advent season.  The last one is the most important in my opinion, but I hope you all have the time to slow down and be in the moment.

I am happy to say that I am finally complete with my Front Zipper Skirt Video.  Feel free to view it below.

This is a video with a special focus on sewing the corner seams & welt pocket. To be honest, I was intimidated to work with faux leather because once it is sewn, the markings are permanent. Also, you’ll see how I burnt the fabric and how it was resolved.

This project took me awhile because it got a little more intimidating especially after burning the fabric.  Well, I believe I am over the intimidation – let’s drink to that;)

Well, thank YOU for visiting & I hope you have a wonderful Holiday Season.  I will be finishing up some projects due by the end of the year but I’m not sure if I will have the chance to post & edit them.  I hope I do but in the meantime, I’m excited to share what is to come for the next upcoming year…soon;)

Take care!

Fall Sewing Fabrics : Zipper Front Skirt :

IMG_4533

Greetings!  I hope you are all keeping yourselves warm.  I am enjoying the cooler weather here in Katy, TX.   I am starting a new sewing project that will be perfect for this weather.  It is going to be my Zipper Front Skirt and above is the inspiration board.

I am really excited about this sewing project because of the bold block coloring Rosalind/Sew Much Fabric suggested. Again, I modified my red lace block pattern to create the toile.  I had used the base of this pattern to create my Bathing Suit Cover-up & the Silk A-line skirt.

IMG_4596

Below are the fabrics Roz put together for this Fall sewing project & my toile is already fitted.  The fabrics & notions from Sew Much Fabric include:

IMG_4797

– Black/White Diamond Woven Cotton : C2726
– Red Faux Leather: PV3559
– Rayon Lining: RL- Valentine Red
– Custom sized zipper
– Gutermann Thread

I am a little nervous because the sewing marks on the faux leather will be permanent. However, I do like challenges😉. There is no do-over once you sew into the leather. You can only take in but there is no letting out 😬. Wish me luck…this will be fun!  Here are the cut fashion fabrics & I will be using leather needles 110/18 to sew;)
