10 Reasons to Wardrobe Planning : Special Guest Roz @sewmuchfabric

Greetings Everyone!

I am now going Live on IG with special guests the last Friday of the month. I had the honor of having Roz with http://stores.smfabric.com as my very first guest. She is the older sister I never had and has taught me so much about faith, family, and community. In this video, she shares her 10 reasons of wardrobe planning. I apologize in advance for the low sound quality and a few technical difficulties but this is some really great information. I am still learning how to work everything. I’m just grateful I was able to save this video:). Roz, we may have to do this again in the future. I hope you enjoy it and please feel free to share your thoughts and if this inspired you to wardrobe plan.

Lace Sleeve Easter Blouse : Get up and Sew!

easter outfits

Greetings!

The week started out a little rough but I finally finished editing the Lace Sleeve Easter top.  I wore the Lace Sleeve Blouse under my Easter dress for mass from home.  Afterwards, I changed into my Sailor Jeans for the Easter egg hunt.  I ❤️ the versatility!

You will see the general process of how I sewed the top with a special focus on cutting and attaching the beautiful #guipurelace.  Feel free to view it below:

As my husband said, “Get up and sew!!!” I was having a hard time getting out of bed last Monday morning worrying about my father.  He got sick recently.  Thank God he is starting to feel better but I can’t help but continue worrying about him and thinking of others who are experiencing stress and worries during this time.

I pray everyone is doing well. 🙏🌎🌍🌏 The reality is we will all have ups and downs. We need to support one another and be there for each other the best we can. Please take care of each other.  It’s ok to have down days but don’t get stuck there.  Do something to keep yourself going whether it is cooking, gardening, organizing, praying, etc – do something you love and enjoy.  Just do something that will help you mentally, physically, and spiritually.  Like my husband said, “get up and sew!!!” – and that I did.🤗😘

Inspiration for my Sailor Jeans

Greetings with many thoughts and prayers for everyone.

In order to keep my mental health positive, I still have to set time aside to design and sew.  It is a time where I lose myself in creativity.  I find this helpful since the time outside of sewing is worrying about others.

This specific project is going to be forever imprinted on my mind because I started this project when the coronavirus unfolded.  I am thinking of making a different kind of video for this one…I will be brainstorming.

Well, I have done plenty of alterations to jeans, but I never sewed denim jeans from beginning to end. This will be my first😬.  After doing some research, I did not find any information on sewing sailor jeans, but I did find some inspirational videos that showed me the general process.  Other than that, I will be figuring out the whole process as I go along.  This will be a lot of fun.

I am in love with the #RalphLauren blue denim available @sewmuchfabric. It is an 8oz no stretch 100% cotton. I wanted a classic contrasting thread so I chose Gutermann #870 Topaz and the matching #279 Dark Midnight. All are available on the online shop at: Sew Much Fabric

My Inspiration Board includes my red linen #memade#sailorshorts😉 and photos on Pinterest. Below is the sewing process for my sailor shorts:

Andrea with @sewtofit has a great tutorial for the flat-felled seam. This just made the process of sewing jeans easier for me.  Thank you Andrea! I got to spend some time practicing.  She has a patreon group that allows access to more wonderful tutorials. Go check her out! Below is a sneak peek into her patreon world.  It is the flat-felled seam tutorial that is only available to her members.  You guys are extra special because I got permission to share this with you;)

Here are videos that inspired me from the YouTube World.

JENNI.SWISS – I like his creativity and style of filming his sewing process. Note: Bar Tack {Time Stamp 5:38}

ROMAN LEMESCHKO – I loved how he used an orange contrasting fabric {Time Stamp 3:21} for the pocket.  I will be using red in mine.

UCHIDA HOUSE – This video made me wish I had all the industrial equipment to sew my jeans.  I didn’t realize all these different types of sewing machines existed.  So cool!

{2:55} Anyone know what this machine is doing? Is it pressing the denim?

Fall Sewing Fabrics : Zipper Front Skirt :

IMG_4533

Greetings!  I hope you are all keeping yourselves warm.  I am enjoying the cooler weather here in Katy, TX.   I am starting a new sewing project that will be perfect for this weather.  It is going to be my Zipper Front Skirt and above is the inspiration board.

I am really excited about this sewing project because of the bold block coloring Rosalind/Sew Much Fabric suggested. Again, I modified my red lace block pattern to create the toile.  I had used the base of this pattern to create my Bathing Suit Cover-up & the Silk A-line skirt.

IMG_4596

Below are the fabrics Roz put together for this Fall sewing project & my toile is already fitted.  The fabrics & notions from Sew Much Fabric include:

IMG_4797

– Black/White Diamond Woven Cotton : C2726
– Red Faux Leather: PV3559
– Rayon Lining: RL- Valentine Red
– Custom sized zipper
– Gutermann Thread

I am a little nervous because the sewing marks on the faux leather will be permanent. However, I do like challenges😉. There is no do-over once you sew into the leather. You can only take in but there is no letting out 😬. Wish me luck…this will be fun!  Here are the cut fashion fabrics & I will be using leather needles 110/18 to sew;)

Accessories for the Fashion Show Outfit

Greetings!  I hope you are all doing very well.  The weather just dropped down to the 50’s in Katy, TX and I am loving the cold breeze.  If you are from Texas, you know it feels officially winter;). How is the weather where you reside?

This week has been a full week of fittings, sewing, and shopping for accessories.  I had a lot of fun with Roz – Sew Much Fabric.  She is putting my outfit together for the Runway Houston Fashion Show.  Because of my experience with the Blue Asymmetrical Dress, I gave her complete freedom & trust to put this together.

I fell in love with my silk A-line skirt when it was complete.  I was already imagining all the possibilities of how I can wear the skirt.  However, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t feeling the whole outfit when wearing the skirt with the Bishop Sleeve blouse.  It felt plain.  But of course, leave it to Roz to solve the challenge.  Using the accessories I already had, she gave me some inspiration ideas.  So we went shopping….

IMG_0879

I spotted a purse that had the colors of my wardrobe & I was drawn to it.  I thought it was fun – my kids called it the pumpkin purse.  Well, this mom is ready to have a little fun with my pumpkin purse – perfect for Fall weather;).  In conclusion, Roz made me fall in love with the outfit by the end of it all.  I am excited to wear it tonight.  For now, I will be putting some outfit ideas together for my lifestyle.  After that, I will prepare for the event tonight by doing my hair & makeup.  If you would like to get up-to-date happenings, feel free to follow me on my Instagram stories.

I did have to alter the necklace I purchased.  I will share that in the near future.  Feel free to watch how I DIYed my earrings for my Red Lace outfit below.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ruby Red Sailor Short : Wardrobe Planning

My Ruby Red Sailor Short has been a great addition to my wardrobe this summer.  I have plenty of running/exercise shorts but no dressy/casual shorts.  When Roz suggested a sailor-inspired short, I had absolutely no hesitation😁.  I organized an inspiration board via Pinterest to give direction on the design.  However, I fell in love with the Balmain shorts immediately.  I appreciated the details & love the pocket design.

IMG_3785

One of my goals is to not buy anymore unnecessary sewing patterns (part of my simplifying journey), but try and work with what I have.  So I drafted my own pattern modifying McCall’s 3892.

It was the same pattern used for my Xmas Party outfit. You can read more about my 70s inspired jumpsuit by visiting clicking: 70’s Xmas Party Outfit.

After studying the sewing lines and the design pieces, I modified the pattern to the style I wanted.  You can watch how I made the pattern below.  I also show the process of how I preshrunk the linen.  You can purchase the Sandra Betzina Fabric Savvy at: https://amzn.to/2XxxIn7

After sewing the Italian Linen Sailor Short, I put a few outfits together.  I think it is time to make a few more shorts because I have been wearing it quite a bit.  You can watch how I sewed the Italian Linen Sailor Short below.

While I was taking apart the toile shorts and laying it out on the beautiful Italian linen, I had time to think about my audience.  You guys are a very thoughtful community! Also, I know my projects can take awhile but yet, you are still following along. You are really patient too! 🤗  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your love & support.  It is very encouraging.  Next editing project in line…my chambray shirt.  What are you sewing for the summer?

Well, I hope you got inspired to create something EXTRAordinary😉.  Have a wonderful week! 😘

Summer Outfit : Wardrobe Planning

IMG_E3007

I am ready for summer!  I love the button up skirt and the camisole I sewed for this summer weather.  Roz with Sew Much Fabric did a wonderful job choosing the fabric and skirt style.  It is lightweight, feels good against my skin, and the fabric pattern is fun.

Here are some of the different outfits I put together with items in my closet – recognize the black tee I sewed? So which outfit do you like the best? Are you making anything for the summer?

Details…

Thank you to Roz for the toile fitting. It can be a challenge to fit myself and I am grateful when someone can help – thank you! 🙏🏽

The sewing video will be coming out in the near future.  Since my family members were taking turns getting sick 🤒 and end-of-the-year school events started, I have fallen behind on my videos😬.  I will be working hard on editing so look out for all the new videos coming soon.

Have an EXTRAordinary weekend and I hope you get inspired to create something EXTRAordinary;)

Greetings!

I hope you are having a fabulous Monday.  I mentioned earlier in the year that I have many exciting projects & events planned for 2019.  One of which I will be collaborating with @sewmuchfabric to plan my wardrobe.  This will be ongoing throughout the 2019 year.  I am excited!  I decided on this collaboration because I thought it would help others who love sewing & design but also want direction on what to sew for their closet.

IMG_E2416

If you have been a long time follower, you may remember I started my journey of simplifying back in 2015.  However, this year I am working on simplifying my wardrobe even more.  Since I started attending more meetings, events, and wedding shows, I wanted a #memade wardrobe that would take me from the car rider line to a business event.  To achieve my goals, I got the help of my dear friend, #stylist & #textileexpert Roz @sewmuchfabric. I am excited and nervous about this journey.  It’s hard to trust someone else with choosing your clothes, but it’s Roz!  She is a professional and excellent at what she does that I’m willing to take that leap of faith with her😊. Well, here are the initial steps we took to plan my wardrobe😊.  {*Please note we are all different & unique.  The sewing projects I will implement have been tailored to my needs.  However, the general process can be applied to your #memade closet.}

Step1 Closet Evaluation: Roz visited my closet to see what I had. Did I have the basics? Is it versatile? How did it function? What colors did I wear? Btw, I wear a lot of black, blush, camel, shades of blues, beige, and a splash of burgundy and a few other accent colors – nothing too exciting😬.

Step2 Questionnaire: Roz asked questions to find out my wardrobe needs. How did I spend my time living life? What are my daily/weekly life activities? What are the big events throughout the year? What activities occur every year? What are the special occasions?

Step3 Evaluation Results: A few days later Roz emailed the results. She broke down my life activities into categories. The activities that occurred the most to the least.
-Family
-Work
-Personal
-Life Events
She planned my wardrobe immediate needs for Jan-March 2019 and listed my basic wardrobe needs.

IMG_E2418

So that is the initial stage. Are you guys ready for this adventure with me? Do you have a curated closet to fit your lifestyle? What colors do you like to wear?

I will continue to do bridal tutorials & other sponsored projects and collaborations, but a big focus in 2019 will be on Youtique Lifestyle wardrobe planning with @sewmuchfabric.

I hope you enjoy the journey and learn something new for your unique wardrobe😊. In the process, may you get inspired to create something EXTRAordinay😉
