Classic Black Slacks Inspiration

Inspiration Board via Pinterest

Greetings!

Hope you are all doing well. I have started my journey of sewing the classic black slacks. I put together my inspiration board & went to youtube for more inspiration on how to sew the expandable waistband & preventing the pockets from gaping.

Here is the status of my classic black slacks. I sewed my toile but the pockets were gaping & the side seam lines were off (center photo). I am preparing to recut the toile & make all the necessary corrections.

If you have any experience sewing pants, feel free to share your knowledge & wisdom. Well, I hope you had a wonderful week & thank you for visiting this evening.

Hugs,

Ann

Hong Kong Finish & Zipper Technique: Basic Red Outfit

IMG_E2575

This may be a basic red outfit but the inside of the skirt and top is #notbasic. This is the first time I completed an outfit with #HongKongSeams and I ❤️ it! No body can see the inside but I know (and now you do too😉).

What inspired me to do Hong Kong Seams you may ask? Well, one of my first sewing books I purchased in college – “Designer Sewing Techniques” by Nancy Fleming.  When I should have been studying for my biology courses, I was skimming design and sewing books😬.  It was one of my guilty pleasures 🤫.  I first saw the Hong Kong seam in this book and have always wanted to try it.  Page 22, you are my inspiration!

About the zipper…

I needed an 18” separating zipper for my red top but the standard separating sizes were 16”, 10”, or 7”.

Instead, I used a 24” standard zipper. I was Inspired by Roz’s @sewmuchfabric strapless top she made in @susankhalje couture class.  She used a zipper longer than the top and sewed on snap buttons. This would keep the zipper tail hidden and in place.  Now that is creative! 👏🏼

However, when Roz first tried to explain how to zip it up over the phone, I had a hard time imagining it. It took a couple of explanations and lots of questions from my end to finally picture it in my head. So instead of just trying to explain it to you, I thought I’d film 🎥it for you as well😉. I hope you learned something new because I sure did😁. #alwayslearning

So what do you think of this technique? Would you try this? What are some other options when faced with this challenge?

Thank you for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Love,

Ann

Youtique Lifestyle: Wardrobe Planning series is a Collaboration with Sew Much Fabric. This will be an ongoing project throughout 2019. Since I started attending more meetings, events, and wedding shows, I wanted a #memade wardrobe that would take me from the car rider line to a business event. To achieve my goals, I got the help of #stylist & #textile expert Rosalind with Sew Much Fabric. She came to evaluate my closet & sent me the results of my closet evaluation. A basic red skirt and blouse was on my list for an immediate wardrobe need. I hope you will join me on this adventure as I curate my closet for 2019.
