Greetings! I hope you are all doing well. My swimsuit coverup is complete & it doubles as my Little Black Dress. Feel free to view the sewing process below:
To create the toile, I modified the block pattern created for my Red Lace Blouse & Skirt.
I also love how the inside of my garment looks clean and beautiful (in my opinion;). I took the time to finish off the seams with bias binding. This process can take some extra sewing time but I think it is worth it. What do you think? Also, how do you like to finish off the seams?
After I completed the garment, I decided to created custom embellished snap buttons. I wanted to hide the metal part so I purchased acrylic scrapbooking embellishments & glued them onto the separate metal snaps. It gave me the option to remove them so I really like how it turned out.
To be honest, I was concerned about the plunging neckline when I first started. Stylist Roz with Sew Much Fabric suggested the low neckline because she said when worn as a dress, I can wear an underdress. Also, I am not full busted, so it would be a flattering design. I have to say she was right. I love how it all turned out, but it took Roz to come over & help style a few outfits for me to be completely convinced. I now see all the possibilities of it being a duster and dress as well. Thank you Roz! So here are some of the outfits below. Which one do you like? or how would you have styled it?
Here are the outfits using items from my closet:
1.Bathing suit cover
2. Red linen sailor shorts #memade😊and a tank top
3. Workout top with an interesting neckline and jeans
4. Black Sheath dress & animal print heels
5. Linen chambray dress with accent red earrings and shoes
6. #LBD (little black dress) with contrasting turquoise jewelry
Also, I got to wear it on a short getaway before Mr. T & the children start school next week. I am glad I got to sew a versatile coverup just in time for the resort.
I know summer is winding down for most of you and I hope you have wonderful new school year! For me, its a time to reset my work schedule so I can’t wait to share all the new fun projects coming up. Stay tuned!
Thank you for visiting!
I hope you got inspired to create something EXTRAordinary out of the ordinary;)
